  1. Auto Tracing
  2. This option toggles between auto tracing on and off.
  3. With tracing on, just click on the first point of the
  4. curve and watch it Gooooo…
  5. 
  6. Trace Specs…
  7. In this dialog you can set some values that change the
  8. behaviour of the auto tracing.
  9. Trace width enables you to set the maximum gap
  10. in pixels the tracer will jump over without stopping
  11. the trace.
  12. Trace height sets the number of pixels the tracer
  13. will look up and down a data point to find the slope of
  14. the curve. When you increase this number, more pixels
  15. will be looked at; i.e. you can trace a steeper slope.
  16. The default values are the ones we found to work best
  17. in most cases.
  18. 
  19. Data Options…
  20. In this dialog you can change some of the behaviour of
  21. DataThief. It contains one checkbox and three radio
  22. buttons. 
  23. The checkbox Enable Markers does just that. When
  24. selected, DataThief will show markers on the spots
  25. you've clicked on. The markers are a circle for data
  26. points and a square box dor an error bar point. This
  27. only works in manual data taking.
  28. The three radio buttons control the behaviour of the
  29. way error bars are handled:
  30. •    No error bars means the plot has no error bars
  31.     (Did I really have to explain this?)
  32. •    Asymetric error bars are error bars which are
  33.     not of equal length. In the output file you will
  34.     get —apart from X and Y values— a Delta-Y+
  35.     and a Delta-Y- value.
  36. •    Symetric error bars have an equal length on
  37.     both sides of the data point. In the output file
  38.     you get just a Delta-Y value.
  39. When either asymetric or symetric error bars
  40. are selected, you don't have to worry about which
  41. point to click first. DataThief is smart enough
  42. to know which of the two error points has the
  43. highest value.
  44. 
  45. File Options…
  46. In this dialog you can set the creator of the output file.
  47. The default is dief, the DataThief file format. If you
  48. change this to f.e. XCEL, the file will be owned by
  49. Microsoft Excel, and can be opened by double-clicking it.
  50. 
  51. Another option here is skip headers. When selected,
  52. this will skip all text in the output file, i.e. it will
  53. only put the numeric data in the file.
  54. 
  55. The last option here is compression factor. When you
  56. change this to n > 1, the output file will contain only
  57. every n-th number.
  58. This only works for auto-traced data!
  59. 
  60. The file options are not saved when you exit DataThief;
  61. you will have to set them manually every time.

  63. Zap Data
  64. Use this and the clicked or scanned data is gone!
  65. You can use this to when scanning a multiple curve plot;
  66. first scan the first curve, save the data, zap the data
  67. and then scan the second curve, etcetera.

  69. Zap Axes
  70. Use this to remove all entered values for the X and
  71. Y axes when you have made a mistake. Clearly, all
  72. the data are gone too.

  74. Sound
  75. This option toggles sound on and off.
  76. Use it if our "fun" sounds make you sick…

  78. Coordinates
  79. This option shows or hides the floating window in
  80. which you can see your current and last clicked
  81. coordinates.
